La Manga

La Manga

South of the Mar Menor and at the end of La Manga we find Cabo de Palos, a fishing village with a charming harbor. This village's lighthouse stands atop a hill, which offers a breathtaking view over the entire headland of La Manga. And from the Cabezo de la Fuente watchtower in Los Corralones, you get a fantastic view over the Mar Menor. Heading further south via the Regional Park of Calblanque (this park is one of the few nature reserves where the original natural beauty remains almost untouched), we arrive in Cartagena. The port of this city was declared the safest in the Mediterranean because of the sea wall that runs along the port and protects the charming center of the old town. The city contains the remnants of a rich historical past and the architecture and monuments this left behind. Heading along the coast, we arrive next at Mazarrón, a tourist center with excellent facilities and vibrant nightlife. Here you can admire the Ciudad Encantada (enchanted city), which is a remarkable landscape of sandstone sculpted by time and wind.

Just before the border marking the beginning of the Costa Almería lies the town of Águilas, a former Roman fishing port and, at that time, an important mining town, as evidenced by the pier of El Hornillo. This fishing village has miles of deserted beach and crystal-clear waters, making it one of the best underwater sports areas.

Finally there is the capital of the Costa Cálida: Murcia. This capital truly has every amenity at your disposal along with a rich history still reflected in its cultural and artistic vibe. Around the main street of La Traperia you can experience the beating heart of city life, and you will find shops, restaurants, banks etc. La Traperia leads to the beautiful cathedral of Murcia.
